Shortlisted Nominee – NFDC Awards 2025
12th March 2025
Demolition - Decomissioning
Having completed various flagship projects as a business in the last twelve months, it's incredible to see the team recognised for their hard work!
With our appointment as Principal Contractor for the demolition and dismantling of S-Chem Polystyrene Production Plant in Al Jubail, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the last quarter of 2023, the successful completion of those complex works was highlighted across our submissions.
The NFDC carefully considered and evaluated all entries, identifying exceptional individuals who had demonstrated outstanding dedication, skill, and leadership within their respective roles. We are exicted to announce our very own Mark Mansfield was shortlisted for Plant Operator of the Year!
Mark was a key member of the team that demolished this chemical plant over an 8-month programme.
With 6 areas of works, the project was bordered by a live substation and sump system, a live main site pipe rack and by the live Teal plant and ground flares, with sections also adjacent to a live road to the wider S-Chem site.
The works included but was not limited to:
- The removal of an incinerator and furnace plant adjacent to a live teal plant
- The removal of a 65m styrene column again adjacent to the live teal plant
- The removal of 5 x 70-ton reactor vessels that were located at height within a steel framed structure
- The demolition of a 45m palletizer building adjacent to an operational plant within the site
- Ground remediation on completion for safe hand over back to client
Due to the incredibly successful work completed on-site, the project and the Hughes and Salvidge team are currently shortlisted for S-Chem Contractor of the Year, due to be announced in August.
Mohammed Habash from S-Chem had this to say following the successful completion of this complex and challenging project:
“The strong bond we share in our work environment, coupled with Mark’s unwavering commitment to safety, has made a lasting impact on our collective journey. Mark’s exceptional work ethic and adherence to safety protocols have been instrumental in the successful and timely completion of the project.”
Sensational work from everyone involved, and good luck to Mark, along with all other nominees, next week at the awards dinner.
