Hughes and Salvidge has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Demolition & Enabling Specialist of the Year Award at this year’s Construction News Specialists Awards. The award category celebrates leadership in the field of demolition and enabling works within the UK.

Our award submission covered the fact that we celebrated 60 Years of Hughes and Salvidge in March 2024, as well as highlighting the successes we celebrated between January 2023 and April 2024.

We had a record 2023; it proved to be our most profitable year to date. We successfully completed a considerable portfolio of technically challenging projects for a range of highly valued clients. Our team boasts a wealth of experience delivering diverse projects. No two projects are the same and we regularly adapt our ways of working to accommodate this, and to exceed client expectations.

One example of the many project successes we had during the awarding period was Deeside Power Station, which was completed in February 2023. The project entailed deconstructing part of the power station’s existing building, ensuring that the part that was being retained remained unaffected by the works.

This involved a meticulous separation process, whereby our skilled team dismantled various elements of the structure with care to create a divide between the two parts of the building, before carefully deconstructing the two boilers, their chimneys and the frames supporting them.

The entire process was undertaken with consideration and rigour to ensure that all elements were safely dismantled and removed to preserve the remaining building, and ensure a smooth and safe process throughout.

Our 60th celebrations highlighted a number of factors that have contributed to our success. We’ve overcome some tough times over the past six decades, yet we’ve continued to grow throughout. Working alongside our associated companies, K&B Crushers, H&S Metals, and H&S Asbestos has ensured that Hughes and Salvidge, and our divisions, have continued to go from strength to strength.

As we continue to grow, so does our responsibility to the communities we operate in. We achieve this by monitoring and evolving our three initiatives supporting the Environment (Green Hands), Health and Safety (Safe Hands), and Social Value (Helping Hands). We prioritise safety and environmental factors in all we do, and we’re committed to delivering responsible and sustainable practices.

The Construction News Specialists Awards, which are now in their 20th year, recognise the outstanding achievements of specialist contractors, highlighting the inspirational businesses and projects across the industry.

Hughes and Salvidge Managing Director, Martyn Burnett, and Operations Director, Danny Byng, will attend a live judging panel in July. They’ll share details of the success they’ve had on global projects in 2023/24 and explain why our work is worthy of winning the award.

Martyn and Danny will deliver a 10-minute presentation to the independent panel, followed by a 15-minute Q&A session. The judging panel is made up of 60+ principle contractors and industry figures, who ensure integrity and diligence in the awards process.

The Awards Ceremony will take place at The Royal Lancaster London on 5 September, where Hughes and Salvidge will have a table.

Martyn said: “With further significant contract wins, alongside the smooth running of the important project procured in the second half of 21/22, we continue to build on the back of our positive results. As we enter another exciting year, our incredible teams have established us within key, vast industries requiring expertise and specialisms, with our focus on continuing to secure major projects in the UK and beyond. All whilst ensuring well-managed, safe and environmentally considerate demolition projects are completed in a timely manner.”
