Ashley Sturgess - NFDC Demolition Operative of the Year 2020

Hughes and Salvidge are proud to announce that our colleague Ashley Sturgess has been named Demolition Operative of the Year at the annual National Federation of Demolition Contractors (NFDC) Awards.

Ashley has been an employee at Hughes and Salvidge for 11 years.

He is a key member of our site personnel, consistently working in a safe manner and becoming a keen and responsible mentor to other labourers on site.

During his time with the company Ashley has worked on a variety of demolition projects including residential developments, large-scale industrial and commercial sites, and on projects at Heathrow and Gatwick Airports.

In recent years he was a member of the site team that delivered the demolition of the former Bargate Shopping Centre in Southampton and the demolition of Douglas Bennett House on the Maudsley Hospital campus in London (pictured).

Ashley has always been very aware of his responsibilities as a site operative, especially working in conjunction with other trades and plant operators.

He has been at the forefront of giving encouragement to younger operatives to aid their progression and in himself has proved friendly, approachable and a great mentor.

Ashley will make himself available at any time and carry out any demolition task from general demolition and burning to asbestos removal, always working competently and efficiently to ensure the job gets completed safely.

He is a highly respected member of the Hughes and Salvidge team and we congratulate him on a well-deserved award.
