Reclaimed Timber At Ludgershall Gets A New Life

We mentioned recently that our continuing demolition work at Corunna Barracks in Ludgershall attracted the attention of the television cameras.

After an appearance on BBC South Today, we can confirm that the team are well underway with the work at the old Army base which ranges from soft stripping of buildings, structural demolition and slab and foundation removal.

It goes without saying that on all our projects Hughes and Salvidge strive to maximise the recycling potential of demolition arising’s, typically achieving a recycling rate of over 98%. On this specific project, one of the materials that we have salvaged from the site is timber.

All of that reclaimed timber will be put to good use as it’s being handled by Hampshire-based Revolutionary Interiors, a firm that specialises in recycling wood salvaged from demolished urban industrial buildings.

Following the reclamation process, they transport the timber back to their facility in Curdridge, where the material is denailed by hand using metal detectors.  The product is then stacked and dried ready for machining and applying finishes.

Revolutionary Interiors are experts at machining reclaimed timber into products such as flooring, tables, seating, wall cladding and ceiling features, the list is endless.  The beauty of using reclaimed timber is the presence of nail holes, splits, shakes and dents which give their products unique character.

The timber reclaimed from Corunna Barracks will be processed and manufactured into bespoke items for delivery to various commercial establishments, generating employment for their small company of 16 staff.
