Army Base Demolition Makes The News

Hughes and Salvidge has recently been entrusted with the demolition of an old Army base in Wiltshire, a project that featured on last night’s South Today early evening news bulletin.

Corunna Barracks in Ludgershall has existed for a century and played a crucial role in the Second World War having been both a base for the US Army and test area for the amphibious vehicles used during the D-Day landings.

Following a recent restructuring of the Army, 62 buildings at the base are being demolished to make way for 246 homes to accommodate the many hundreds of Army families returning from Germany.

Much of the material recovered from the demolition will be utilised to help construct the new houses.

A number of vastly sized warehouses at the site are also being demolished for the proposed development which also includes a primary school, land for community use and open space.

Hughes and Salvidge is completing the demolition works on behalf of the Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO) with the assignment due to be completed early next year.
