Hughes And Salvidge Gives Its Backing To Charity Walkers
Will Spong 17th September 2014
In July this year, Mark Lockwood and his son Matthew took part in a 16-day Coast to Coast walk for MacMillan Cancer Support.
Starting on 3rd July, Mark and Matthew, friends of the Hughes and Salvidge Health and Safety team, began their trek along the famed Coast to Coast walk, taking them across three National Parks and covering 196 miles in the process.
The Coast to Coast route is a trek across Northern England. It passes through three contrasting national parks: the Lake District National Park, the Yorkshire Dales National Park, and the North York Moors National Park. The quality and variety of this walk was recognised in 2004, when it was rated the second best walk in the world, beating walks such as, the Inca Trail and Everest Base Camp walk.
The decision to complete this challenge stemmed from Mark’s desire to mark his 25th year as a Chartered Safety Adviser and to raise funds for MacMillan. The family benefitted from MacMillan’s support when his brother-in-law was unfortunately diagnosed with Mesothelioma three years ago and decided to give something back.
Hughes and Salvidge sponsored Mark and Matthew’s 50th mile day and they have provided us with some photos of their journey. They smashed their original fundraising target of £5,432.10 and have raised £9,668.38 to date.
